Decadence

Decadence is a RPG Adventure 2D Platformer that is set in the 1850s that dives into themes like corruption, extortion and what it means to fight for a purpose.


Role: Artist & Audio


Showcasing the setting and mood of how each individual Level:

Level 1 is the tutorial level and it's setting inspiration is from the 1850 Alleyways:

  • Human Sprites were designed accordingly to the dress style of the 1850s (Eg. Ladies wear Large, voluminous skirts)

  • Buildings were designed based off references from olden day building structures

  • Colors used were darker to simulate the setting of a dark alleyway


Level 2 setting inspiration is from the 1850 Warehouses:

  • Different ranks of enemy constabulary, higher the rank, the more difficult to defeat

  • Warehouse assets designed based off olden day warehouses in dark color tones

  • Proper positioning of enemies ensures optimal gameplay flow


Level 3 setting inspiration is from the 1850 Constabulary Office:

  • Have to go through different parts of the level before engaging in a boss battle

  • Environment assets are designed based on modern day office premise with usage of 1850s color scheme

  • Lighting is brighter to ensure visual clarity leading up to the boss level


Snippet on the cutscenes that are in the game:

Mechanics: 1)Movement: Left and Right movement with player being able to jump to be able to navigate and get around the levels 2)Shooting: Player is able to make use of the Gun that is always with them to shoot enemies, crates, or dangling crates that will drop special items 3)Interactable Environment: The game has platforms that collapses when player stands on it for a specific amount of time and player is also able to flip over tables 4)Boss Battle: During our final level, there will be a boss battle where the player will have to defeat the boss, and the boss has a high health-bar and a reload phase 5)Enemies: There are enemies scattered around the levels that are patrolling left and right, and player loses a health point when coming into contact with the enemy, and the higher the class of the enemy, the higher the health of the enemy 6)Special Items: Player is able to collect ammo to restock their gun ammo and able to collect crumpets for extra damage, and tea for extra health 7)Crates: When crates are destroyed, it will be a randomized event where the crate will either drop ammo, crumpets, or tea for the player to collect
